Newcastle United footballers Bobby Moncur and David Craig both took up squash after they’d finished their playing careers, and reached a good team standard playing for Gateshead Springs. Moncur was a bit of an animal on court, Craig was a really nice touch player.

I took up squash after I left Everton FC as a Junior.
I then coached squash at an exclusive health club in Liverpol frequented by Liverpool FC players. I then wrote a play based on three clients I taught squash to in the health club. The ‘squash’play then went on to performed at the Edinburgh festival. Funny old Game saint!

Derek Forster (born 19 February 1949) is a former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He started his career at a Newcastle school team where he also played for the England school team. He then moved to Sunderland as a youth player, where he would progress to become their youngest ever player to make a first team appearance. Used to play Barry Batey at Durham Squash Club until they got married and eloped to America!

Robbie Deans, the Wallabies coach played in Div 2 Sydney league. Very fit, but never asked for let’s or strokes. Didn’t win a match but very competitive and nice bloke.
